togetherness

Today I watched some of the live coverage of the hīkoi (protest march against the Treaty Principles Bill) at Wellington Parliament by RNZ.

It’s the most beautiful and powerful event I’ve ever seen. The strong feeling of aroha/love energy just cannot be ignored. Political differences seemed trivial, now bringing people together from all corners of New Zealand, and indeed, the world with many immigrants present at the hīkoi. To me, it came across like absolute unity. What can be more beautiful than that.

Togetherness is where the potential of peace lies, now and in the future.

My heart is full. And isn’t that what it’s all about?

The title for this post was inspired by Katie Stone’s story, Turkey, tamales, and ice cream pie: the many colours of Christmas in Food Views from around the world.

Christmas time in Tokyo at night. A lit up heart shape in the foreground with a row of lit trees and the Tokyo Tower lit up in the background.

Whether you’re religious or not, whether it’s summer or winter, the Christmas season is usually a time for people to spend time together.

Katie writes about the food traditions and other ways people celebrate Christmas in different parts of the world during the (festive) season. You can find out what they are in Food Views from around the world.
